It’s always amazing to me how their comments are often so similar. People who love reading, and read a lot, tend to know what works on the page and what doesn’t. It gives me hope for the reading public and for books, in general.
So much of what is published is not well written, just well told. Some is poorly told and well-written…go figure. I think serious writers wish to do both well. I know I do.
Many think the writing life is lonely and, to some extent, it is. But there comes a time in the life of a manuscript when the writer goes public: soliciting editing comments and general opinion. Hoping for validation…praying.
All of which brings me to a quotation I once read:
“When we ask for advice, we are usually looking for an accomplice.”
